Hi there! I'm Rebecca. I am currently in High School, and I love to read and learn about science. I believe that everyone should have access to books and science all of the time, which is why I am completing this project. If you have any questions about me or my Gold Award, feel free to email me by using the envelope button in the top left corner of the page.. Below is a bit more information about me. Happy reading!
Activities and Awards:
Girl Scout Gold Award: 2015 (100+ hours)
Girl Scout Silver Award: 2012 (40+ hours)
I collected almost 2,000 new and gently used books for RAIHN (Rochester Area Interfaith Hospitality Network) http://raihn.org and Cameron House http://www.cameronministries.org/home0.aspx . At RAIHN, I organized and added to their collection of books, assembled 70 age-appropriate take-home bags for children, as well as worked with younger Girl Scouts to make fun bookmarks. I labeled and sorted about 200 Accelerated Reader books for Cameron House. Another 1000 books were donated to their collection for children to enjoy at home during school breaks. I also worked with two other scouts my age to develop and present a “Healthy Eating” unit to some inner city youth at their summer camp.
Girl Scout Leader Assistant for younger troop: 2011-present (40+ hours)
Non-Profit Cooking Camp “Cooking for Kids” 2011, 2012, 2013 (70 hours)
In 2011, I learned from a neighbor that there were not any cooking experiences for elementary school aged children in Penfield. I decided to start a small, non-profit cooking camp out of my home kitchen. For three years I have run a three day camp where the children were able to cook from scratch while following a recipe. We also created art projects and organized a well –rounded meal for 10-12 people. I planned, budgeted, shopped, and ran the camp on my own.
